March and Simon's (1958) model of the decision to participate was examined empirically with a sample of professional, managerial and technical employees. The results provide partial support for the model. While confirming the importance of job satisfaction in predicting the propensity to leave, perceived ease of movement, intraorganizational movement possibilities, and the interaction of job dissatisfaction and ease of movement were also found to be significant independent contributors in explaining the employee’s propensity to leave.

The author presents a functional analysis of the Production Council in Israeli industry. He first presents the P.C.’s manifest function and discusses its existence and reasoning. He then provides a latent function interpretation of the phenomenon and suggests that this interpretation adequately explains the phenomenon and contributes to its understanding within the enterprise context.

Le but de cet article est d'examiner l’influence modératrice des besoins dits supérieurs ou intrinsèques (besoin d'accomplissement, de développement personnel, de compétence) sur la relation entre les caractéristiques du travail normalement associées à l'enrichissement des tâches (e.g. complexité, autonomie, variété) d'une part et la satisfaction et la motivation de l'employé d'autre part. À la suite d'une revue de la littérature pertinente, les auteurs présentent et discutent les résultats d'une recherche effectuée auprès de 176 employés d'un hôpital du Québec. La conclusion résume les implications de ces résultats pour les chercheurs et pour les administrateurs.
