Title
Fighting Back! The 1984 Hospital Workers Strike
Abstract
In 1981, thirteen thousand CUPE hospital workers across Ontario defied hospital management, the provincial government, the courts, the police, the media, and their own union officials to stage a nine-day strike. They did not have the legal right to strike but they struck anyway, for themselves, for each other, for their patients, and for all who work in and value public servies. Their courageous story is told in this 1984 documentary, “Fighting Back!” [Includes interviews with Janet Jones, Sheila Casey, Shirley Samson, Carolyn Greenlaw, Norma St. Denis - CUPE 870, Gerry Jones - CUPE 676, and Earl Zaroski, Rick Barclay - CUPE 576.] --Synopsis at Justice for Workers website
