Ryerson's Union Fair: Introducing Students to the Labour Movement
Abstract
Discusses the day-long "union fair" held in mid-March over the past two years at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, where students learned about the roles, concerns, and achievements of unions. The theme of this year's event was "Stand By Me—Unions at Work" with accompanying illustrations and promotional material. Over two dozen unions participated with displays and tables of information. A speaker series, film screenings on labour, and a concert of songs about work and social change was also held. Concludes that this was an effective way to introduce students to the labour movement.
